TWO CONTINTENTS, ONE BATTLE – THE MORA BANC SKIERS CUP GRANDVALIRA IS DROPPING ON JANUARY 30, 2016
The date for the most innovative and exciting contest in freeskiing is just around the corner, and the snow is stacking up and conditions are improving for the epic showdown between Europe and the Americas.
Lausanne, Switzerland – January 12, 2016 – In less than three weeks the most talented riders in the world will assemble in Southern Europe’s largest ski resort: Grandvalira, Andorra. Nestled between Spain and France, this hidden freeride haven is going to set the stage for the battle between Richard Permin’s Europe and Sage Catabriga-Alosa’s Americas. The two continents will have to demonstrate they have the riders and the skills to prevail in two contrasting disciplines: backcountry slopestyle (jumps and tricks) and big mountain (freeride).
The action is easy to follow as riders will have a six-day weather window between January 30, and February 4, to throw down on the two days with the most optimal weather and conditions. Spectators will have a chance to watch the best skiers in the world hit huge airs in the crowd-pleasing backcountry slopestyle event. After the action, riders and spectators alike will be able to hang out in the official Skiers Cup event village in Grandvalira from Friday, January 29 to Sunday, January 31.
Riders will be judged in pairs over the two competition days and after each match-up, a winner will be announced immediately and the winning continent will score a point. The judging panel is composed of three Judges; freeskiing legend Philou Poirier (CAN), French freeskiing master Arnaud Rougier, and big mountain crusher Sam Smoothy (NZL) as a neutral judge. The action will be easy to follow and the competitive spirit will be alive in this legendary event. The continent with the most points at the end of the two competition days will be victorious.
Meet the Shaper
Arnaud Kugener from France is back for his third year as the official Skiers Cup shaper. Kugener has the magical ability to turn natural features into a playground for freeskiers.
